  It is important to inspect your tips on a regular basis. Only buy the best. A bargain tip may turn out to be a liability. Make sure they do not wear through to the metal washer, if they have they are way past replacement time. The time to replace you tips is when you can see the tread on the bottom of the tip worn to the place you can see the difference. Replace them before this warning sign to be safe.

Also inspect as the season changes, water, leaves, or snow all will effect the crutch tip usage.

    The wide tip is essential to you if you require daily use of crutches. This tip will absorb the shock of walking greater. In the long run your arms and shoulders will thank you ! 

Suggestions on cane usage

One should hold the cane in the hand opposite your painful or weak leg. If your balance is poor, use your steadier hand. Always move the cane and the opposite leg together.

climbing up stairs - Lead with your strongest leg first. Then next with the cane, and the weak or painful leg to that same step.

going down stairs -  Step down with the cane and the weak or painful leg first. Then, lower the strong leg to that same step.

Safety Tips:   Replace worn rubber tips immediately.
                     Attach an ice pick in winter.

Adjusting your cane

 measuring your cane:

• Turn the cane upside down and put the handle on the floor.
• Stand with your arms at your sides.
• The tip of the cane should be at the level of your wrist.

To Adjust Your Cane

For Wooden Canes

• When your cane is upside down, mark the cane at the level of your wrist.
• Remove rubber tip.
• Cut the cane 1/2 inch shorter than where you marked it.
• Replace rubber tip.

For Aluminum Canes

Most aluminum canes can be easily adjusted within an inch of the desired height.
